Street L.A. is a dynamic group of passionate street photographers united by a shared purpose to authentically capture the real story of Los Angeles. We're dedicated to documenting our ever-evolving city during a transformative and challenging period.

Founded in 2021, Street L.A. grew out of Julia Dean’s Street photography classes at The Julia Dean Photo Workshops and Los Angeles Center of Photography.

Street L.A.’s members bring diverse perspectives to the table—some with a fine art focus, others with a candid, photojournalistic approach, and even those using iPhones.

​

For years, we gathered every Saturday to shoot in different locations, but as our individual styles developed, many of us now have our own favorite spots to explore. We’re committed to shooting at least once a week, whether solo or with a fellow photographer. Once a month, we convene at Studious, a vibrant co-working space in DTLA, to share and critique each other's work.

Each member also works on a special project, whether it’s a series of street portraits, a documentary about a homeless individual living in an alley, or cinematic night shots with a film noir vibe.

Street L.A. is the next step after Julia’s two street photography courses: Street Photography, an introduction to the genre, and Street Critique, a class that prepares students to apply for the Collective.

​

The collective’s ultimate goal is to document the essence of the city we love. Over the past two and a half years, our work has been featured in numerous press articles, particularly following PROJECTING L.A., a large-scale exhibition of our photographs. We have even more exciting press plans on the horizon!
