Artist Statement
I have always been drawn to a story told through a lens, whether that be in the medium of film or a still motion camera. One moves through time the other freezes it. Each is powerful, artistic and evocative. I like to explore through my camera lens the people, the scenes and the stories that speak to me. When I travel it’s very common for me to shoot out of moving trains or cars because I often find the best images are the ones passing you by. As a member of the Street LA Collective I am out on the streets all the time and am learning how to shoot people and scenes where it’s more likely that I am the one in motion. I primarily shoot in black and white because there's a rich texture and timelessness to the images that I find more interesting. My influences are many but I am particularly struck by the work of Margaret Bourke-White, Dorothea Lange, Gordon Parks, Bruce Davidson and Vivian Maier. All of them captured people and stories and embodied the idiom that “a picture is worth a thousand words.” I hope you find some meaning in my work.
